[David] I did not care for this commercial at all. I find it tasteless and unappealing.

[Diane] This is a horrible misrepresentation of the breed! It just feeds stereotypes that many of us work very hard to erase. Shame on any add exec who approved this. Shame on Verizon.

[anonymous] Awful! First of all, the dogs are chained, then, they're ears are cropped. Next, they're displayed as vicious dogs...what an awful stereotype! Spend one day volunteering in your local animal shelter and you will fall in love with at least one pit bull. Humans make them mean...just as humans can make a chihuahua or cocker spaniel mean. I will never switch to verizon!

[Robin] I was in shock to see this commercial...
For everything that has happened in the past year with dog fighting and stereotyping of pit bulls...
Really... you think they would have done a little more research at Verizon before airing such a total disturbing and ignorant commercial. I am so glad I am not one of their customers!

[Sara] Horrible ad degnerating a wonderful breed. I generally enjoy the Verizon commercials particularly the recent "Dead Zone" TV spots and find it hard to believe that this ad would appeal to anyone except perhaps to those who fight pit bulls.

[Carrie] I had to look this up because I couldn't believe that commercial! Those poor dogs!! (I know, in real life they're probably fine) but the representation was just awful. Too many animals live and die horribly due to humans. This commercial just seems totally selfish. I was surprised that it was Verizon because I like their other commercials.

[Sara] I've written to Verizon complaining about this ad.

[Becca] This is a TERRIBLE commercial portraying an awful and UNTRUE stereotype of 'pitbull' breed dogs. When raised properly, these dogs make wonderful family companions. This breed is already being persecuted unfairly due to negative media attention and ignorance about the breed. The last thing they need is a commercial like this to seal it in people's minds that all pitbulls are vicious attack dogs that should be put to sleep simply because of their breed. I wrote a complaint to LG about this ad and hopefully enough others will complain to get this ad off the air. I recently bought an LG phone and now I'm too disgusted to use it...I'm going back to my old Sony cell phone.

[Sandy] This is a sad commentary on how some dogs are treated and it should be against the law to chain any dog to a car and be left in the hot sun - and in some states it is! Please stop depicting such cruelty and especially stop adding to the misinformation about Pit Bulls!

[Sue] How dare Verizon place such a commercial on the air!!!!
We are trying so hard to change their reputation to those who know nothing about them and along comes a verizon commercial showing them as very mean dogs chained to a car in a junk yard. My pitbull is the best dog that I have ever had and after everything that pitbulls have been through I think that this commercial should be illegal. I wonder what the Humane Society would think of this. What is wrong with Verizon?

[CryBaby] Omg its just a commercial about some dogs. Stop crying and it is true that pits are some of the most vicious dogs whether trained or not look at the statistics you cry baby's. You act like these dogs are paying your bills. As as long as the dogs were not hurt in the commercial why cry.

[Crystal] CryBaby... go work with American Staffordshires (aka Pitts) and see what well behaved, loving creatures they are before you open your mouth. I am a vet tech and volunteer in my spare time with rescues. They are far from aggressive and "vicious". Now those chihuahuas and Dauschaunds have bitten more people than any pit bulls.

[shocked] i can not believe that they would make such a stupid commercial... really... you would think they would know better.
as a pit bull owner and advocate, i would never use verizon because of this.
what a way to further negative pit bull hype.

[Pat Stryszak] I seen it last night and can not stand the fact they are making the pitbulls mean. They have a bad enough rap this didn't help them any better. We are a rescue and we see enough. This did not help them at all. Someone needs to be educated

[Lucy] Oh please. Shame on the owner who let his or her dogs be exploited in such a horrible commercial.
Every time the general public sees these stereotypes reinforced, it means fewer decent people are willing to give nice Pit Bulls a chance to be adopted in a shelter.

[Fams] Pitbull stereotypes or not, this is just a stupid commercial. What unimaginative advertizing exec came up with this one?

[Mel] Maybe you should look at the real stats. instead of getting all your info. from the "yellow rags" passed off as journalism. I agree the people that believe such stereotypes should work with the rescues & selters for a few days. It's true about passing judement before walking a mile in my shoes. You need to meet the real victims.

[JEANNE HAMILTON] THEY SHOULD BE SUED FOR DISCRIMINATION AGAINST SUCH A LOVING, LOYAL BREED! I MAY DROP MY SERVICE WITH THEM. AND THE ABOVE "GO CRY ME A RIVER", YOUR COMMENTS SHOW YOUR IGNORANCE AS A HUMAN BEING. IF YOU THINK THAT ABOUT A DOG, WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT HUMANS? ARE YOU A PIT BULL ABUSER? THEY TAKE UP FOR SUCH CRAP. VERIZON MADE A BAD "POINT" AND A POOR CHOICE FOR THE COMMERCIAL.

[Trent] Most of you are idiots. "Pit bulls are naturally sweet", "This is horrible", "I hate to see dogs in chains". Jesus... you people will be the downfall of society. Grow a pair. Pit Bulls ARE NOT naturally sweet. They were created for a purpose and it was not a sweet one. It's just a commercial about guard dogs. Pit Bulls were CREATED to fight each other. Do some damn research and stop your freaking whining! The commercial did not depict two Pit Bulls fighting each other you idiots. It showed them protecting their owners property. Just like they SHOULD do. Pit Bulls are great dogs, but you people are some whiny B!tches.

[Schnitzie] Trent, your obvious ignorance completely undermines your point. The pitbulls in the ad are being portrayed as Human-Aggressive...exactly what PB's were NOT bred for. If PBs were bred to be Human-Aggressive they could not be handled and used for the purposes they were originally bred-for...to attack bears and other dogs. They have to human-pleasing, or they would never do the bidding of their handlers in the ring. Accordingly, PBs are predisposed to be very affectionate towards humans. They are not human aggressive unless there has been abuse, neglect or an absence of human socialization early in life.
The PBs in the ad are portrayed as Human Aggressive, a false and misleading stereotype. There is also a total lack of comprehension of the cruelty of chaining dogs. It is presented as if it is normal and expected. When one ponders the numbers of PBs euthanized in shelters and denied normal dog-socialization and exercise due to ignorant BSL legislation that thrives on this misinformation, it is deadly unfair to the breed and the owners who love and manage these dogs properly. That sucks and it is disgusting. The ad also perpetuates the myth of these dogs being "badass" which is also inexcuseable because it encourages irresponsible breeding and use of these dogs as fighters and macho status symbols.

[Trent] How come no one is crying for the Hispanic looking guy who is depicted in a stereotypical manner? Huh? Nobody is going to whine about the Mexican looking guy playing the part of a thieving trespasser? What kind of whiny people are you all? Come on, if you are going to b!tch and moan about a stupid commercial at least you could cry about that too.
archive
[Boychucker] I'm very surprised a large company such as Verizon would be so stupid as to use "vicious" pit bulls in an ad. Come on. Knowledgeable people know that pit bulls are not vicious and this just makes Verizon look ignorant.
archive
[Trent] Schnitzie, canines are used to protect property. The dogs are not being portrayed as being "human aggressive", they are being portrayed as being INTRUDER aggressive. There is a big difference.
Please explain to me how in the HELL chaining a dog is cruel. Please. A chained dog is no different than a leashed dog being walked. It just doesn't have a human attached to the end of it. A chain is simply a retention device. How about if it was a nice cushy nylon cord with flowers painted on it? Would that be more to your visual appeal?
Chains, cables, cords, ropes, leashes... there is no difference. Only to those people that SEE it that way. It is an inanimate object used to restrain a dog. In the commercial it makes no sense since they are inside of a fence. (Too bad history has proven fences to not always do their job of keeping dogs in and intruders out)
archive
[Carol] I beg to differ with Trent about chaining. There is a huge difference between tying a dog up (using a chain or a cushy nylon cord makes no difference) and walking him on a leash. In fact, chaining is considered so cruel that many communities have passed laws against it. Regarding the commercial, I think it is tasteless and generally dreadful - not only depicting dogs on chains but falsely stereotyping the breed. I will be cancelling my Verizon service and switching to another provider.

[Trent] Just for the record... I am against BSL.
But I am also not living in LA LA land and going to try to convince everyone that Pit Bulls are something they are not. I love them, but they are what they are. Powerful, loyal, and potentially devastating.
Again, I am against BSL.
This commercial is just a damn commercial though and some of you are ignorantly whining and wasting your life emailing a corporation about junkyard dogs. The dogs are in a junkyard. They are guard dogs. They protected their property. Sorry people, dogs used for protecting property are not going to be little cute snuggly puppies. They are going to be big aggressive dogs. Get over it!
archive
[Schnitzie] The ones living at the end of chains, "outside dogs," invariably come into rescue with every parasite known to dog, and it's a miracle if they don't have heartworm, which is fatal. Living on a chain for protracted periods of time, outside, is a hard and often cruel life for a dog. They are more vulnerable to disease, dehydration, and attacks from other animals or humans, since they are free only to run the length of the chain.
archive
[Trent] Carol, how is it stereotyping the breed? They could have easily used rabid half bred dogs. Would you be whining about that too? What if it was ANY other bred of dog? Would you whine and cry for them too? Are you saying that dogs should never be depicted as guard dogs? Wait, wait... are you saying that it is inhumane to use a dog to protect your property?
Now if this guy ran into a random alley and they dogs arbitrarily started after him, then I could see some of your points. But I am sorry, this commercial shows a guy jumping a fence and trespassing, and it shows two dogs doing what any two guard dogs, regardless of their breed, doing what guard dogs do... protecting their master's property.
I say... GOOD JOB VERIZON! The day they take away my right to protect my own property is the day I find a new country!

[Trent] Schnitzie, well stated, and I'll agree with you on those scenarios.

[person] ok... so i hate this commercial! for starters Pitbull already have a bad name, and this commercial totally misportrays them as viscious guard dogs, which is not natural for they're breed! of course any dog could be trained, but pibulls are sweet loving non-human agressive dogs! and you are helping to crush the pitbulls name! i am soo glad I dont have verizon! if i did i would swith services that is how appauling this commercial is! and I will, believe me... pass this around, and urge people to discontinue Verizon services!!!
archive
[Trent] Get over the fact that they are Pit Bulls! They are guard dogs!! The breed of the dog is completely irrelevant!
Person, if Pit Bulls are such "sweet loving non-human aggressive" then why are they, along with Rottweilers, the two dogs responsible with the majority of human deaths per year related to dog attack? Explain that to me... please. Oh... lets not forget that the humans killed are defenseless elderly and very young kids.
Again, I love Pit Bulls, but I am not going to sit here like a brain dead idiot and say that they are sweet and cuddly and would never do harm. You are a fool if you think that way. PIT BULLS WERE CREATED FOR AN INHUMANE SPORT! You cannot deny HISTORY! Owning Pit Bulls requires more responsibility, and it is the irresponsible owners that are the problem.
Pit Bulls CAN be loving family dogs, and they ARE. But don't try to blow smoke up my butt and tell me that a Pit Bull is anything other than a Pit Bull. If I owned a junkyard, and I needed a loyal guard dog, you know what I would get?... a god damned PIT BULL! Why? Oh I don't know... maybe because they are good at it.

[Trent] Also, my wife and I have had AmStaffs live with us, and we have even rescued a stray pit bull that got lost when it got out of it's yard 1/2 mile away. We kept her for 2 days and played with her a bunch. She was a pure joy to have for the two days that it took us to find her owner. I do love Pit Bulls, but I sure as hell know what they are capable of too.

[anonymous] Trent, that's ignorant. I'm not afraid to say that. Chaining a dog is different because they're out there ALL the time. Leashing is so the dog will be restrained on a walk. Seriously, that was the most ignorant thing I've read all day.
Also, if pit bulls are such good guard dogs- why are they one of the number one stolen dogs? A guard dog WOULDN'T be stolen. Know why? BECAUSE THEY'RE THERE TO GUARD YOU IDIOT.
This commercial, just like the Altell one with the doberman, is distasteful and digusting. I hate seeing this stupid shit.

[anonymous] Crybaby, don't say look at the stats until you've walked a mile in a pit bulls shows.
Have you had an overbred and underfed pit bull staring at you; worried that you can't be trusted because her last three homes left her, abused her, neglected her?
Have you held a pit bull you were CERTAIN was going to die soon in your arms while he shook and cried? A pit bull in such bad shape that; even if he did live; his bones would NEVER be the same. He'd have scars in horrible places, he'd be emotionally damaged- afraid. And, then, when you realized he DID live- you realize what caused him to be that way. You realize that he came from a dog fighting pit. And for 10 years- while hes ALIVE you worry that BSL will hit you next. And he's not registered. What would you do? He's TEN.
Have you ever held a dying pit bull puppy in your arms and tried to nurse him back to health because his momma; a dog your rescued from a touch situation; won't feed him? And, when you finally do lose him- you realize maybe it was for the better because assholes would want him to be theirs anyway and who wants to put a puppy into a world like that anyway?
No?
Then don't say NOTHING about stats. Because, when you see who the REAL monster is- I don't think your black heart could take it.

[Carol] I think we ought to cool the emerging flame war... but I want to say that I have a 3 year old male (neutered) pit mix who loves everybody. He was a chained yard dog in a poor part of my city that I adopted when his owners decided they didn't want him anymore. While on the chain, he barked constantly. Now, after about six months with me, he doesn't bark at all. I didn't get him to be a guard dog, and frankly, I'm glad he's a quiet boy, but the only harm he would do to an intruder into my yard would be to lick them to death.

FIRST OF ALL, TRY READING ALL MY POSTS BEFORE SPEWING YOUR CRAP. I ALREADY CONCEDED THAT LEAVING ANY DOG ON A CHAIN OR LEASH ALL THE TIME IS INHUMANE.
"Also, if pit bulls are such good guard dogs- why are they one of the number one stolen dogs? A guard dog WOULDN'T be stolen. Know why? BECAUSE THEY'RE THERE TO GUARD YOU IDIOT."
UH... YOU'RE THE IDIOT. NOT ALL PIT BULLS ARE GUARD DOGS. THEY ARE (IF THIS IS TRUE) THE NUMBER ONE STOLEN DOG BECAUSE THERE IS A VERY LARGE DEMAND FOR THEM ON THE BLACK MARKET. CRAWL BACK UNDER YOUR ROCK.
