[Sara] My opinion only (Verizon and everyone else is welcome to their own opinion): Keep making humorous and informative commercials, I've enjoyed almost every one of them especially the Dead Zone ones. Do some research on anti-BSL groups and be knowledgable about the number of people that will be offended by stereotypical portrayals of pit bulls. Decide to market the LG Dare in such a manner that people will want to buy the phone. I took my trained, non-cropped, pit-mix for a walk yesterday and whiles there's a good chance the other dog walker with child and stroller hadn't seen the Verizon commercial (and, yes, it probably was my imagination) he did not respond to my hello and shielded his child while we passed.

[LaWanda Horton] Now I know exactly why I have a Nokia phone and use AT&T. That was a very disgusting commercial! Pit Bulls get a bad enough rap, not to mention you showedf them on chains. How cruel and inhumane!

[anonymous] That was a very disgusting commercial! no dog breed deserves this stupidity. I was going to use Verizon, but no more - Bring back the"dead zone" people commercial, they were fascinating--

[Kristine Rehill] I am appalled by this commercial! It is an unfair portrayal of a devoted, loyal and fun-loving breed! That's not to mention that your company is adding to the negative stereotype that already plagues this wonderful breed of dogs. My new contract *with* Verizon Wireless is up on Wednesday, July 30th 2008 (a mere week away) and I'm reconsidering my wireless provider simply because of this commercial!

[Trent] Sara... are you seriously judging a father for protecting his baby?? It doesn't matter if you are walking a Lab or mix breed for all that matters. You're going to cast judgment on someone for protecting their child from an animal!!???
It is called "safety first".
He doesn't know that your pit bull is well mannered. He doesn't know how your dog will react to a stroller, and to HIS DOG. He probably should have given you a wide berth in order to avoid a possible problem with the dogs.
He was walking a dog and pushing a stroller... I'm thinking he already had his hands full. Instead of saying hello... you might have crossed the street instead and saved him the stress. People are generally quite protective of their young.

[Athena] TRENT... First of all do Pit Bulls weren't raised or breeded to be gaurd dogs and to do harm they were bred to me farm dogs rescue dogs and war dogs. To some research... And BTW TRENT its the HUMANs that trains the pits to be mean and its not in their nature to be.
Secondly, The reason why they are labled as "bully Breeds" is bc stupid assholes like you!

|

[Ha] Athena, you make my point again. People are stupid, and you'll never change that. As long as people are stupid, pit bulls will be used in ways to exploit their strength and tenacity. That means dog fights and mean dogs.

[Trent] Athena... you are right that Pit Bulls weren't created to be guard dogs. That doesn't mean that people don't still USE them as such. I NEVER said they were GOOD guard dogs.
Bred to be farm and rescue dogs????? Please tell me where you got that information.
I'm not a stupid asshole. I have my facts straight. You might want to spend 5 minutes doing some Google searches and get yourself up to speed on WHY the Pit Bull was created. It sure as hell wasn't for farming.
Trust me... you do more harm to the Pit Bull breed than I ever could. (and just so that you know... Athena... I think Pit Bulls are great dogs... get a clue)

[Kat] In any other circumstance, these exec's would be brought up on charges of cruelty for what is depicted in this ad. Before my granddaughter got a pit bull, I had the same uneducated fear of this breed. Now I know they are so loyal, loving and wonderful. But above all, the covert cruelty shown in this ad should not be allowed to go unanswered. Every Verizon customer should protest and put their money where their mouth is. Pay the penalty but take your business elsewhere if they don't: 1. Retract the ad and 2. Make a public apology for their stereotyping this breed and showing cruelty to animals

[Kat] Trent, A very interesting dialog that you are certainly spending a lot of time on, to defend yourself.
Tell me, in your spare time, what do you actually stand for? What causes are you working on that make a difference in the world?

[Athena] TRENT: As far as my research goes it comes from not only internet searches but also books upon books of research and owning pit bulls. I am not agruing the fact that Pits are used for dog fighting an such but so are cocks and guess what they kill too. But I am trying to make my point that it is the humans that train the pit to fight and not the dog itself. Punish the DEED not the BREED. In this commerical it does have the dogs tied up on chains which in my opinion is very inhumane let alone distasteless. Even if it was a rot or lab tied up with a chain it still wouldn't matter it is disgusting. And how could I possibly do more harm to the breed then you honestly the more and more you argue with other pit bull advocates the more and more you will get frustrated with the fact you think you are better then everyone else and not everyone has the same ideals as you. I agree with Kat What kind of "time" or "life" you lead if all you do is spend all your spare time on here calling everyone stupid.

Jack Russell Kills Infant
Infant died of suffocation, blood loss in dog attack
Jan 19, 2008 @ 08:10 PM
By The Associated Press
The Associated Press
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) _ Authorities say a 6-week-old baby in Lexington died of suffocation and blood loss after being attacked by a family dog.
Witnesses told police that the baby, identified as Justin Mozer, was sleeping in a bedroom Friday afternoon when a Jack Russell terrier attacked him.
An autopsy was done Saturday on the infant's body, and the Fayette County coroner's office says it showed that he died of traumatic asphyxia, or suffocation, and blood loss due to the attack.
Police said the mother was bathing another child while the baby was sleeping in the same room as the dog, WKYT-TV in Lexington reported.
The coroner's office says the baby was found unresponsive after the attack. The baby was taken to University of Kentucky Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The coroner's office says the death is being investigated as accidental.

Rottweiler Attacks Woman While Walking Pet

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- An elderly Cookeville woman is recovering from injuries she sustained after being severely bitten by a Rottweiler while walking her granddaughter' s dog.
Video: Elderly Woman Attacked By Rottweiler
Elise Holt, 86, has six grandchildren and said her granddaughter' s Chihuahua, Mojo, is part of the family as well.
"I take care of him and he takes care of me," said Holt.
So, family members said they weren't surprised when Holt risked her own life while trying to save the dog after a Rottweiler attacked the two on Friday.
Holt said she enjoys taking Mojo for long walks down her son's Putnam County driveway. On Friday, the two had made it to the bottom of the driveway when Holt looked up and saw the black Rottweiler staring back at them from across the street.
"At first he stood and looked at us until we got back up here," said Holt.
A calm, but frightened Holt scooped up Mojo and was walking back to the top of the driveway when the Rottweiler attacked.
From a kitchen window, a family member said they saw Holt on the ground with her arms bleeding and knocked out, but clutching onto Mojo. Meanwhile, the Rottweiler was still standing over Holt.
"They said I was lying on the ground and had the little dog in my arms," said Holt.
Cookeville police found the Rottweiler several blocks away, where it was later shot and killed.
Holt's son, Harold, said the dog's owner has absolute liability for what happened to his mother.
State officials are still testing the dog's remains for rabies. The owner was cited for violating the state’s leash law.

A seven-year-old boy was rescued from the jaws of a powerful hunting dog by his father.
Charlie Faulding was left with 40 stitches to his head and legs after the Japanese Akita attacked him while he tried to retrieve a football from his neighbour's garden.
The boy's father, Mark Faulding, 36, fought off the dog in a dramatic rescue after he found his son lying face down in a pool of blood and unconscious.
He said he believed his son would have died if he had not stopped the attack.
Charlie's distraught sister Chrissie, 12, who was playing with Charlie, alerted Mr Faulding.
The former horse-trainer said: 'The first thing I knew about it was when Chrissie came running in screaming. I could hear the other children screaming and knew something terrible was happening.'
The brave father told how he ran out and seeing his son's lifeless body instinctively jumped over the fence.
'It was standing over him growling just inches from his face,' he said.
'I grabbed it and threw it across the yard. I don't know where the strength came from but he flew across to the other side.
'Straight away he ran at me so I grabbed a stick and started swinging it at him but then he went for Charlie again and got hold of his legs.'
Mr Faulding said he tried to hit the dog to make it let go of his son but nothing was stopping it.
A teenage girl, on the other side of the fence, then passed him a shovel and he hit the dog three times on the back making it finally release its grip.
The dog backed into a corner, still bearing its teeth, but allowed Mr Faulding to pass the still-unconscious Charlie over the fence to neighbours before he was able to escape himself.
Powerful: The Japanese Akita dog Tyson that attacked Charlie when he climbed over a wall to get his ball back
Mr Faulding said: 'I thought he was dead. He was covered in blood and I could not recognise him or tell what damage was done. He was unconscious and the dog was growling inches from his face.'
Charlie had been playing outside his family's semi-detached home, in Bradford, West Yorkshire, last week with his sister and other children from the estate just before the attack happened.
After a ball was kicked into the neighbour's garden Charlie decided to climb the 9ft fence and sat on it, knowing the dog, named 'Tyson', was there.
Mark said Charlie had patted Tyson several times before when he was being walked by its owner.
He said: 'Two teenage boys told Charlie not to worry about the Akita, saying it was friendly. When he jumped into the yard, it wagged its tail and let Charlie pat its head.
'But as soon as he threw the ball over the fence, bang, it just went for him.'
Charlie, who spent nearly two days in hospital, said: 'I was just lying down putting my hands in his face so he couldn't bite me, then it knocked my hand out of the way.'
The schoolboy was rushed to Bradford Royal Infirmary where he underwent a three-hour operation.
Despite the boy's injuries, West Yorkshire Police said no offence had been committed because the 18-month-old dog was secure, surrounded by a high wall and behind a padlocked gate.
A spokesman for the dog's owners, who did not wish to be named, thinks Charlie may have hurt himself jumping into the garden, angering the dog.
He said: 'The boy has jumped into the garden, which we always keep secure and the gate locked, and he could have fallen and cracked his head. There would be a smell of blood, which any dog would react to.'
Dad Mark, a former Akita owner, does not believe Charlie was injured before the attack. He now thinks dog licensing laws should be reviewed.
He said: 'The damage it had done in such a short time - only 30 or 40 seconds - was scary. Truthfully, I think if I had not been there my son would definitely have been killed.'
Baby's genitals torn off in dog attack

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A mother woke Saturday afternoon to find her one-month-old baby bleeding after a dog had apparently attacked him.
Nicole Hemmick told Fort Wayne Police that after she got home around 6 a.m. Saturday from delivering papers and she went to bed with her one-month-old son. Around 1 p.m., Hemmick told police was woken by her 5-year-old who needed help with the television remote.
She noticed that the baby had been moved from his original position. She then saw the baby was missing his diaper and there was blood on him. She immediately rushed to him to St. Joseph Hospital.
Police say the child's testicles had been pulled out of the scrotum. Due to the extent of the damage, the baby was transferred to Lutheran Hospital for surgery. The baby is now in stable condition.
Police and Animal Control went to Hemmick's apartment at 1009 Fayette on the city's southeast side, with her permission and took custody of the dog, a six-month-old Poodle/Cairn Terrier mix. The dog was put down by Animal Care and Control at the request of the owner.
Animal Care and Control Spokesperson Peggy Bender says it's important to start training your dog for the arrival of a new baby as soon as you know you'll be bringing one home. "Once you bring that baby into the home, you need to supervise all children around pets," says Bender. "If you can not do supervision, then that's why it's important to make sure your dog is crate trained."
Fort Wayne Police spokesman, Michael Joyner said no charges are expected and there's no reason to suspect neglect. He calls it is a horrible accident.

[Rachel] I just think that Trent doesn't realize that we are fighting these for these dogs so that more ignorant people dont go out and get pitbulls and then crop their ears with fucking scissors in their junk drawer and then have it go fight the neighborhood stray or chain it up so it looks mean in their yard. So that we can help stop the overbreeding and killing of these dogs. He obviously knows that any dog, not just pit bulls, can be a loving or aggressive dog based on how their owners handle them. And since he knows his statistics so well, then he must know that when a pitbull attacks there are hundreds if not thousands of reports made nationally in papers and on the news even if it isnt fatal or even if the person didnt need stitches, and when a retriever attacks and fatally wounds someone there is maybe 2 reports made locally in the paper of that neighborhood. I mean since he knows his statistics. And he must know that since pitbulls were naturally born to fight other dogs, then it is definitely necessary that they must be trained, beaten, starved and made mean by these dog fighters so that they can do what they were "naturally" made for. He also must know that since the pitbull is the most abused dog that it MAY have something to do with them being the most deadly. Aside from his numerous contradictions, i'd say trent is pretty well educated on the breed as he claims, as far as what he's seen in the media.
Also, he knows that if it were any other breed that was continually abused, murdered, neglected etc, shown here that we would be fighting for them too.
Of course rescue groups are going to tell you to be cautious with a pit they rescued. It was rescued for a reason you chode. Any dog rescued from an abusive home there would be some kind of precaution stated.
So while you're out telling the cancer association for kids that they had it coming to them why don't you get a brain bigger than the size of your deformed shriveled left nut.

[Trent] Athena... I'm not sure of your point. Not a single person in this thread has said that "only Pit Bulls kill".
And to prove your point you paste ONE death by JRT and a bunch of dog ATTACKS. At least you should have posted stories that resulted in death, if that is the point you are trying to make.
No one has stated that "only Pit Bulls kill". I believe that at least 30 different dog breeds have been attributed to human fatalities. So no... nobody is stating that only PBs kill.
What do you have next?

"So while you're out telling the cancer association for kids that they had it coming to them why don't you get a brain bigger than the size of your deformed shriveled left nut."....... WTF?? Completely asinine and way uncalled for.
Ummm... I think it is quite clear that most of you would NOT be here fighting for another dog. It has been stated several times in this thread that specific other breeds should have been used. So in order to cast the light off of your breed you are willing to give up another.
Don't use me for your scratching post girl. I've only stated the truth. Sounds to me like you can't swallow the truth so you make up your own belief system.
You are HYPERSENSITIVE!! It is just a commercial. Some of the people on this thread are ready to fight just like... Pit Bulls. Except with other people. (I know you'll say "we're ready to fight for our dogs.... blah blah blah", which is fine and good... but come on, get over it. [Athena] This is well explained by a petition organizer and I believe it applies here. AND YES WE KNOW ITS JUST A COMMERICAL
...We need to let them know that negatively perpetuating the APBT breed that is under attack, largly due to public misconception, is being irresponsible.
They portray 2 vicious, fight cropped, pit bulls on heavy chains in a commercial, further damaging their reputation.
In the early part of the twentieth century, pitbulls were regarded as HEROS and FAMILY dogs. They are very loyal and loving animals. It wasn't until a particular, unsavory sect, of our society started using these dogs as some sort of "bad boy", status symbol, that their inherent good quality's were diminished in favor of the vicious, fighting image they now have.
Please, help deliver the message to Verizon, that this is further tarnishing a wonderful breed of dogs reputation. These animals are under attack in many states who wish to ban the breed entirely.
This is unacceptable to those of us who believe that RESPONSIBLE pet ownership should be the TARGET of legislation, not the breed.
We ask for a committment from Verizon not to use animal performers in any of their future advertising plans. Regardless of the breed or species, animal performers are typically exploited, often abused by handlers (and forgotten by the sponsor once the commercial is shot), and denigrated in commercials.
ies here and sums up what all the pit bull advocates are trying to say and get there point across....

[jojo] The dogs that were used in the commerical are like actors, they are trained, and probably some of the sweetest dogs in real life. The dogs are acting, just like the mexican (that trent pointed out nobody is complaining about how the mexican is being portraied as a thief). I'm sure the dogs are not vicious in real life, just like the actor jumping over the fence is not a thief in real life.
