Description

The ad starts off showing the ground and three men a shown walking in slow motion towards the camera. The voice-over: "This fall. The evolution will be televised." That is a reference to the song/poem "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" by Gil Scott-Heron, and the slow-mo walking is a nod to films such as "Reservoir Dogs".

The most obvious reference to pop culture is the song "Also Sprach Zarathustra", which is synonymous with the film "2001: A Space Odyssey". One part of the movie is about how a tribe of man-apes discover a strange monolith, and this is a catalyst for the next phase in evolution.

"Cavemen. A new comedy Tuesdays this fall on ABC."

The show is based on the GEICO cavemen commercials.

[anonymous] Just have to say I love the music (if not the strange but sometimes amusing concept of this show, which doesn't particularly make much sense). If you haven't read the book the music is a tribute to, you totally should. You'll see why it's so epic and why Kubrick used it (especially to indicate "evolution").
