Description
Elvis Costello talks about Ludwig van Beethoven. "He wrote a few toe-tappers," he says matter-of-factly, but realizing full-well that Beethoven composed some of the most well-known and well-regarded music in history. The piece he's listening to is from Beethoven's 9th Symphony, which Costello points out was written when Beethoven was deaf. Costello then compares and contrasts the song to rock 'n' roll music.

Is this the John Eliot Gardiner version with the Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique? They seem to use that tempo.
piccolo,
I'm not sure which performance the commercial uses. If I find out I'll update the iTunes and amazon links, but for now they're just pointing to example performances.

I'm pretty sure it's the version recorded for Deutsche Grammofon directed by Herbert Karajan, unless someone can put me right.
