The song was written specifically for the commercial by Jason Wade (lead vocalist of Lifehouse), then released as a single by the band.

Lyrics used in the commercial

So far away from where you are
Standing underneath the stars
And I wish you were here

I miss the years that were erased
I miss the way the sunshine would light up your face
I miss all the little things I never thought that they'd mean everything to me
Yeah, I miss you
And I wish you were here

Description

On a desert road, a line of cars drive spaced close together. Inside each car are teens, doing normal teen things. Some horsing around, others driving cautiously.

But all those cars represent a sad fact. The voice-over explains, "Every year nearly 6000 teenagers go out for a drive. And never come back. Just talking to them can change that."

At the Allstate site, you can view the Parent-Teen Driving Contract, which includes information about teen crash rates, and other factors, and let's the parents and teens set their own agreement.
