GEICO - Beverly Hillbillies commercial
Summary: A behind the scenes exposé on Jed Clampett.
Description
"The Real Scoop" (TRS) is a parody of celebrity investigative shows (e.g. "True Hollywood Story", "Behind the Music"). This installment is about Jed Clampett, character from the classic TV show "The Beverly Hillbillies". The Clampetts struck it rich by discovering oil on their land, which established the premise of the show where they move to a posh lifestyle in Beverly Hills, yet still remain hillbillies at heart.
However, TRS presents another theory of how Jed got the money. He's shown in "archive" footage switching to GEICO, thus saving a substantial sum of money.

I saw this on the FX channel tonight and it caught me off guard. Had me laughing so hard!
The "private investigator" is played by Shuler Hensley.
Christina, thanks. Updated above.
Very clever ad but let's hope Geico handles its insurance claims better than it does its commercials. Contrary to ad's claim that Jed struck it rich in summer of '63, he and the rest of the family were already on TV in fall of '62.
Hee, hee! Funny ad, but how unfair is it for the investigator to suggest Jed Clampett was a liar about how he made his fortune when he is not alive to defend himself!
Did anybody note that Jed was signing up for insurance on the internet using a PC, 20 to 30 years before either was invented?
Also the vehicle was not Jed's. It was Pearl, Jethro's mother's vehicle. She would have had the insurance not Jed.
